Rank 5.56mm SHTF ammo in my inventory.

I was going over my current inventory and wanted to reshuffle and rank them from best (#1)....... to worst (#7) (General SHTF terminal performance-wise).

This is what I have and in order of my uninformed ranking, best to worst:

    1. Hornady 75gr TAP Nato (#8162)

    2. Hornady 75gr TAP Practice (steel case)

    3. IMI 62gr SS109 Greentip (1993 production)

    4. S&B 62gr SS109 Greentip (light green 20rd box......Generic?)

    5. Federal 55gr XM193 (plain unpainted brown 20rd box)

    6. S&B 55gr FMJ (green & yellow 20rd box....Generic?)

    7. PMC 55gr FMJ Bronze (20rd box....IME slightly underpowered?)

What say you, in light of current performance expectations? I realize these rounds are not the latest gee wiz, but I have quite a bit of each.

I would pick one and stick with it. Different rounds with different points of aim, ect.

I might keep a bit of #1 for self defense, and some of #2 if it shoots close to the point of aim in YOUR guns to #1.

As for ammunition to stock in bulk for a SHTF incident, I would pick one of the 62 gr loads such as IMI and then stock it deep.

I have read 55gr (especially XM193?) outperforms SS109 Greentips, but this info may be out of date.

My ranking respectively to your order:
    1
    2
    4
    6
    3
    5
After 3 I'm not 100%, but nothing you have is great. I'd suggest getting some good SP ammo for "GP" purposes. Mk 318 will work for cheap, but I'm stocking fed 62/64 gr fusions based off of tests.

TAP is excellent for unobstructed shots, but barriers greatly degrade its performance.

It still holds true. M855 is a poor performer because of its inconsistency.

How about reserving M855/SS109 specifically for vehicles? (As compared to the other rounds in my inventory)

I realize the newer bonded SP's are better for vehicles and overall general purpose, but finances are short right now to purchase the newer modern rounds while presently stocked deep with the above listed rounds. So I must do with what I have until I burn them up (preferably by reverse ranking) for practice. So hypothetically if SHTF tomorrow, I am curious of my present stock's ranking.

With what you have none will do great through barriers, so if you have stocked them deep put a large volume through the barrier. Once the barrier is weakened the latter bullets should make it through easier.

If you do have ample supply of your list quit buying them and slowly pick up a case of some type of barrier round. Federal fusion can be had relativley inexpensive for bonded rounds. Generally under a dollar a round.

The consensus so far, is this rank adjusted list better than the one I originally posted?

    1. Hornady 75gr TAP Nato (#8162)

    2. Hornady 75gr TAP Practice (steel case)

    3. Federal 55gr XM193 (plain unpainted brown 20rd box)

    4. S&B 55gr FMJ (green & yellow 20rd box....Generic?)

    5. IMI 62gr SS109 Greentip (1993 production)

    6. S&B 62gr SS109 Greentip (light green 20rd box......Generic?)

    7. PMC 55gr FMJ Bronze (20rd box....IME slightly underpowered?)
