Building a 22" or 24" Mossberg 500 with extended magazine tube, how?

I almost never use my Mossberg 500 anymore, but I don't really want to sell it. I was watching some Youtube videos today since I had nothing else to do and came across this one of Jerry Miculek shooting a Mossberg 500. How do I go about building something like this? It appears to be either 22" or 24" vent rib barrel and it has an 8 shot tube. The barrel to mag tube mount appears to be from a 590 rather than a 500 however. Anybody know how to make one of these? I can't find anything on Mossberg's site. Pretty sure all I would need is the barrel (but where to find it) and a longer mag tube.

I seem to remember coming across a picture of something like this over the summer but I can't remember where. My only reason for wanting to do this would be so I could use the gun for competitions. It's a lot cheaper than buying something new considering I wouldn't use it often.

He says in the video it's an 835 barrel fitted to the 500. Or, you can buy an 8-shot 500 with a 20" barrel off the shelf. Add an extended choke tube if you want a 21" barrel I guess. Would be a lot more $$ to get an 835 barrel fit to the 500 I'd think, unless they just happen to fit. A 500 mag tube screws off, not like a Rem 870 that is soldered on. I'm sure Mossberg would sell you an 8-shot tube & 20" barrel if you wanted to retrofit your gun, but an 8-shot Mossberg Maverick 88 wouldn't cost much more and you'd have a great gun to use & abuse.

I want something longer than 20" though. Apparently there is a 24" 590 barrel, these guys list it for under $100. http://www.havlinsales.com/ I know that will fit if I switch the mag tube. Also if I run the long mag tube plus an extension, I think it will fit 10 2-3/4" shells. If I run the standard 590 mag tube, it will be 8+1 and Limited class legal. I can add the extension if I want to compete in other classes.

I'd like to be able to use this in 3 gun, and also still have it be worth while at shooting clays or if I decide to use it for hunting.

I was looking for the same thing.
I have a 22 inch barrel "Slugger" 500 and I would like an extended tube. Unfortunatly the 2 places I have found the kit, they are back ordered, Brownells was one of those places.
I dont need the barrel, just the magazine. Any help would be appreciated.

I got a notification from midway that the 8 round tubes are in now.

He laid it out some what. It's an 835 barrel with the lug relocated. Then a 590 8 round mag tube. Looks like he could add a plus 2 and make it a ten shot.

One issue with the 835 barrels is they are Overbored to basicly 10 gauge so shooting slugs is not recommender.

    That said...........

I haven't bought it yet, but I found a 590 barrel that's 24" and I'm probably gonna go that route. It's a cylinder bore and a direct drop in. Then I just need to get the long mag tube.

237.jpgI just finished a Mossberg 500A this morning.
I went with the 8 round tube and a 20 inch barrel that I plan on having drilled for chokes.
It isn't exactly what you were looking for as it is a bit shorter and I went with the folding rifle sights, but I feel it's a good light and handy shotgun.
As far as multi purpose I feel like once it is set up for chokes it will be pretty close to as good as it will get.

I could be mistaking but you will need a barrel for that tube, the mount is farther down on the barrel to accommodate the three extra shells.

The 835 receiver is longer than the 500(to feed 3 1/2" shells. A 500 receiver will work with 835 barrels if you swap the mag tube for a 835 tube
