    50 vs 100 yard zero

I used to zero my 556 rifles at 100 yds, because that was how I was taught to do so.

A friend recently sent me this chart and 50 seems to be a much better option.

I recently zeroed my ACR at 50 yards and was really pleased with how easy it was to have the +/- 2 inches up to 225 yards was.

I'm not a "expert" marksman, but I can shoot, and was wondering why most classes out there favor the 100 yard zero?
In the future, PMAGs will be the currency standard.

I much prefer the 50yd for red dots used in combat.

0-200 you can pull head shots.

    200-400 center mass no problem.

Of course for optics with a bdc they should be zeroed according to the manufacturer.

Can't remember where I read it but it made good logical sense to me.

Basically its this. With a 100 yard zero, everything other than at 100 is going to be low ...duh right?

The reason thats a good thing is your misses. Theoretically you'll see your where low misses hit and have the ability to correct accordingly.

Again in theory, other zeros COULD produce a high miss which you can do nothing with as there is no feedback, i.e. dirt etc. flying.

I prefer a 200 meter zero, which is close to a 50 yard zero. At 300 yards, you use a neck hold sight picture and drop the rounds into the 10 ring on a B-27 target.

There are stickys covering this in pretty good detail, titled "AR-15 Zeroes and Trajectories" and "Zen of the 100 meter zero" around here somewhere, take a read.
