    Purchasing my first suppressor tomorrow

Hey M4C, heading to my class 3 dealer tomorrow to purchase my first suppressor. I think I have my mind made up on a SF Socom 556. I've been researching suppressors and whether to get 30cal or dedicated 5.56 can for a long time. In my mind I've convinced myself that a dedicated 5.56 can is all I need as I don't shoot bolt guns, I don't hunt (except coyote occasionally when it's opportunistic), I'm not a fan of 300blk, and I load all of my own 5.56/.223.

I have 2 ARs, one a Noveske irons-only 14.5" and the other is a scoped Noveske 16" with SS Recon barrel. This suppressor will see use on both rifles.

Is there something I haven't thought of? Am I making the right choice?

I feel like there's something I'm missing in this process, though I always feel like this when I make a big purchase.

Ahhh...the other part of the conundrum is whether to get CLEO sign off or form a trust. I do live in a county that has a very pro-2A sheriff that will sign form 4s.

Based on your description above I think you will be happy with that can. I bought both SF SOCOM 556 and 762 cans. The 556 is just fine on my 5.56 ARs and the 762 works great on my bolt gun (and soon to be .308/7.62 AR).

I went with a trust to allow specific folks to use my NFA items while I'm not present. You may decide differently and based on CLEO sign off flexibility as MikeDawg46L mentioned.

You can always talk yourself into/out of any can but that's why the manufacturers make more.

And now your long wait begins...

I get the logic on the 556 can. What's the logic on the SF Socom?

Its a proven design and system. What other reasons do you need?

Lots of reasons. The question is what are you looking for in a can? If POI shift is one of them surefire is the way to go. If thats not at the top of the list there are a lot better options based on size, weight, and silence. PS all of the high end 556 cans that we would talk about here are a "proven design and system".

Sounds like a good plan, I'm waiting for my 5.56 SOCOM as well...

Frequently others make the mistake (myself included) of going with particular can because of db reduction, when I've discovered the smaller / lighter the can the better. There are limits, while my Mini4 is perfect on my 14.5, it's too little for my 11.5 (hence why I bought the SOCOM). My original can, an AAC SPR/M4, sits in my safe neglected- one day I'll build an SDM upper for it.

I'd go the trust route, it's kind of expensive initially, but EVERYTHING in the NFA world is expensive...

This is my reason for going with SF. I thought I mentioned in my original post what my priorities were, but just looked back and saw that I didn't.

    In order of personal importance:

    Minimal/repeatable POI shift

Ease and security of mounting between multiple rifles.

    Noise reduction.

The Socom RC seems to meet these in that order.

If Minimal/repeatable POI shift is your top priority there is no better.

What options are better for the reasons listed than SF?
