    Vtac alpha rail

Does anyone have any experience installing the vtac alpha rail on a colt 6920?

Yes, it's what I run. The 13" version. It's very easy to do. There are some decent youtube vids on the procedure, you're going to need to replace the standard A2 sight with a low profile gas block if you want a longer rail though.

If I keep the standard front sight I shouldn't need a gas block, right?

Sure, but you will still need to remove the sight to install the Alpha. You will just need to get a shorter version of the VTAC, although I'm not exactly sure if it's the 7.2 inch or 9 inch that would accommodate you. I'm sure there's somebody here that could tell you the exact dimensions from receiver to sight.

I received the 7.2 in the mail yesterday. Is the front sight hard to remove?

    I have a Troy Alpha 13 inch on my Colt 6920 .

I've seen some pics of the 7.2 inch Alpha on several ARs with the FSB left intact
but I don't know what brands they are .

To put the Alpha on a 6920 while leaving the FSB intact you will have to
remove the flashhider , pound the pins out of the FSB , and pull the FSB
off of the front of the barrel .
You'll have to cut off the delta ring, spring , and ring as well .
Lotsa Youtube vids available on that .

BTW -I highly recommend that if you're going to dremmel off
the delta ring you should tape cardboard or some sort of
disposable guard near where you're cutting so you don't
nick up your barrel nut or anything else .

I used ducktape ,cereal boxes , and the tubes from paper towels .

You might want to consider using a new crush washer instead
of reusing the old one .

Those Colt pins are REALLY in there . Until you get them to move
I'd start with a much larger pin and then move to the correct size .

I agree with everything above, but I removed the barrel nut so I didn't have to destroy the delta ring.

Installing the VTAC Alpha is pretty easy. There are some thing I do not like about the Troy Alpha design but ease of installation is a huge plus for it. Just in case you did not know, install any rail sections before you put the rail on.

The VTAC Delta rail is the best way to go if you want to keep your front sight and have zero mods to the weapon. I put one on my Colt a few weeks back and have no complaints.

    David,
Does the VTAC delta rail fit into the existing delta ring or do I need to dremel it off? From the picture you posted, it looks like the original ring.
Thanks for posting the picture. It looks like a great rifle.
