    M4gery Question

Hey guys, brand new to this forum, but have read a lot, and obtained a lot of very useful info from reading the threads here, which is why I chose BCM for my mid-length build, so thanks a lot for that. I'm not Leo/Mil., I'm just a normal guy that enjoys building, shooting, hopefully some time training, and hunting with ar's. I'm not a mall ninja/commando wannabe, I work for an armored car company, and i firmly beleive in the KISS method. But that doesnt mean I want to build low quality firearms, so my question is this. I'm building an M4gery, but I'm stuck on what receivers to use. I know the topic of receivers has been beaten to death, so I sincerely apologize b/c this is a question asked/answered a million times over, so I'll do my best to maybe ask it in a more precise way. My parts list is as follows:

Barrel: Colt 16" w/pinned fsb (G&R Tactical) already have
BCG: Colt (G&R Tactical) already have
    LPK: Colt (G&R)
    RE/Buffer assy: Colt (G&R)
    Stock, Pistol grip: Colt (G&R)
Rail-Maybe: Daniel Defense E-Z CAR 7.0, or Colt Round hand guards
    Rear Sight: LMT fixed
    Lower: Seekins/Mega/ Armalite?
    Upper: Seekins/Mega/Armalite?

The receivers in question are just those that I'm considering at the moment, but my problem is that I cant help but feel like I might be selling the build short. Am i going to be gtg with any of those, or should I just pony up and buy the Colt, or even Noveske receivers when I can find them? Thanks for any advice in advance.

Forgive me if I am missing something, but it would appear to me that with the exception of the receiver components, you have basically pieced together a Colt rifle without the factory assembly/inspection/QC process being part of the equation.
I don't think you would be losing out by using receivers from someone other than Colt, but I must ask.... Why not just snag up an LE6920 and call it a day? Then you would have all Colt parts, Colt quality control, inspection and assembly, as well as a Colt marked receiver that has an M4 Carbine rollmark on it. They have been going for as little as $850 recently.

I'd get Colt receivers since you already have Colt parts, but many other will served you well also.

Out of curiosity. Why didn't you consider getting a Colt 6920 and then just add a rail, etc... What did you pay for the parts thus far?

I guess if it's going to be an M4gery why not consider a real Colt lower? They can be found on Gunbroker which is where I got mine. I only bought it because I already had a Colt 6920 barrel (from another re-build), a Colt upper, BCG and the other components to build it out like I wanted.

That's definitely going to happen at some point. The reasons are, upon hindsight, probably kind of stupid actucally now that I think about it. The much smaller reason is b/c I enjoy building them myself. Mostly b/c that's just kind of my way to quit smoking. Throw the $50/week I would normally spend on cigarettes in an account and 30 days later there's a new part. I have a tangible reward for my efforts ya know. The larger reason is b/c of the political climate being the way it is. After Aurora and Sandy Hook, God rest them, and the AWB talk started, rifles and parts flew off shelves as I'm sure you guys know, and the parts dried up just as fast, and what didn't go quadrupled in price, especially lower receivers. Idk it just seems like a way to get the parts that disappeared fastest now, and have them for down the road, instead of waiting 6 months when anything could happen in that time. That being said, if it does I can just save, and until/if that happens I can just buy the parts I have money for if I dont have enough for a complete rifle yet...

But yes after this rifle is done, either a complete colt, or BCM is going to happen.

You've come this far, I agree, try to find a Colt receiver set.

Other options would be a Vltor MUR upper and a variety of good stripped lowers out there, like Aero, BCM, PSA, Noveske...

All you have is barrel and BCG so far right? I think you'd be fine with any good receivers, but I am really partial to Armalite's rollmarks. Billet lowers just look weird.

Are you referring to M4gery as a clone of mi issued M4, or are you just calling any carbine an M4gery?

If you're wanting to clone, you need a KAC RAS, a MaTech buis, and an Aimpoint M2 or M4 and you'll be there.

I would also reconsider the Colt receiver extension, an LMT or BCM has six holes, vs Colt's four.

A Daniel Defense rear sight is a lot slicker than the LMT. If you're gonna have all the knobs, might as well get a whole carry handle and have the benefit of stiffening the upper (tiny benefit).

A BCM stock and grip are a lot cheaper than Colt and seem just as good.

You have a solid barrel and BCG. Attach barrel and BCG to this:

    http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin...n&key=BCM-URM4

Then attach upper receiver group to this:

    http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin...on&key=LWR-BCM

And now you're off and running. This BCM/Colt M4gery will do everything a Colt M4gery can do. Really, no bullshit!

I just saw what parts you have. I would simply look for a factory Colt and then modify it from there.
