I guess it also depends on what LOP you are running.
I run a UBR on an Afghan with a 13.5" NSR handguard one notch from fully closed and it balances the rifle perfectly.

I have a 10" .300 that I have been running a UBR on. I like the added weight in the rear...and think that having a little extra plastic around the buffer tube, helps to quite the action down a bit. I run suppressed most of the time and the UBR with a JP Captured Spring really does the trick.

Just my .02 but I had a UBR on a rifle with a 16" barrel and a 10" Geissele SMR mk1 and it was still incredibly rear heavy. Point of balance was at the pistol grip. I swapped it out for a B5 SOPMOD Bravo because I got tired of the rifle trying to go muzzle up when I was reloading.
