Agreed on the wires!
What issue did you have? What I did have an issue with was the wires. They suck. So I switched to a Gear Sector offset with clicky tail cap on the support side, and never looked back.
- cqbdriverIt is from the construction of underground FEMA camps. I can't say more because there a guy parked in front of house in an AMC Pacer. He is acting like he talking on the phone, but I know better.
I have to sign off now & put my laptop in the microwave.
To me the tape switch seems a bit finicky. Gotta hit it in just the right spot for it to work properly.
Also, I don't like how wires look whether it be the tv in my living room or wires on sled, bike, or truck I just like a clean look/setup.
Lastly, even secured and routed properly it seems like a possible snag hazard or weak point...
The thorntail sits closer to the top rail than the gear sector (if you're putting the gear sector on the top rail too).
Also don't forget that the thorntail touches the rail along the full length of the mount, so you can't put a front sight directly in front of the thorntail clamp.

Out of the two surefire lights that I mount on my AR one has a tailcap pushbutton and the other is on a tape/thumb button.

Thanks slippers. Sounds it'd be close. Some trial and error may be in order.
If you look, you'll see I did my damndest to get them put away and tucked in close. I used Larue's index clips and even wrapped them around the PEQ15. I used an SR-07 D-IT tape switch that controlled the PEQ and SF.
Still, when in a vehicle or while using unconventional shooting positions with gloves on, when you go to grab your weapon quickly and man-handle it more than once I popped the wire out of my Surefire or PEQ. I understand there are probably ways around this like taping the entire forearm with electrical tape or using zip ties, but I didn't care for the tape switch in the first place. As Go ALLOUT said, it is kind of finicky and while that's great for negating negative discharges of light, it's a pain in the ass when you're trying to use it.
Those pics are like 4 years old now, and the setup Go Allout posted a pic of is much better.
My humble opinion is that with the amount of mounts on the market today, there is no reason for anyone to use a tapeswitch. Simple = Good and even if a 6 fingered monkey is being trained to shoot he can find a mount that puts the light exactly where he wants it (see Arisaka)

Why do the loudest do the least?
That's correct if you are mounting your Thorntail on the top rail.
Personally and as depicted, I mount mine on the side rail, not the top.
The pic from Haley sight also shows it mounted on the side.
And if you notice, he also has a folded down BUIS
