I heard on a video that they're "stronger", so I'm assuming they're more durable, but yes- I'd love to hear specifics.

Reduced backpressure and stronger. I'll let Garin spread the finer details.

Very curious about the "stronger" aspects. I wonder if they've gone to a fully welded core?

Surefire seems to have a tightlipped, borderline paranoid policy on not disclosing specs. "Proprietary high-temp alloy" is probably all we are going to get.

One can hardly blame them. They do not have a monopoly on the ability to purchase materials, or to cut/weld them. Intellectual property is a real thing.

The rep at Shot show said a couple db's quieter and less back pressure.
    I paint spaceship parts.

I think it's great they have a second generation, I'm all about progress... I'm just hoping the first gen SOCOMs go back on sale at Silencer Shop!

Hey guys. The SOCOM 2 Series do have some new features. We are doing a computer controlled welding that is 200% at the welds. The core is a little different and the design was focused on less back pressure and cycle rate further over the original SOCOM series and keeping the first round flash at a minimum. Most of the features were designed based and focused toward the military. During sound testing and R&D designs most of the models did get a tiny reduction in sound by 1-2dB.

Did any of the socom cans get the computer controlled welding as a rolling change kindof like how magpul used the gen 3 polymer formula in gen 2 mags for a while before gen 3 was announced, or is it only to be found in the new cans?

I'm interested in how the 300blk can performs on 5.56. Since I don't shoot 308 I'm thinking it might be a better option than the 7.62 Mini for a multi-cal can. So when can we expect to see the new cans on dealer shelves?
