    LaRue Handguard Gas Block Question...

I have a LaRue LT15-11 on the way and have a question about gas block clearance. The research I've done so far suggests the Vltor or DD clamp on gas blocks fit under the rail, however the rail cannot be passed over the block so it has to be installed after.

For anyone thats been down this path, is there any particular reason you couldn't open up the cutout in the rear of the handguard just enough to clear?

I know I can use a set screw version or simply cut down my A2, but I would rather do a clamp on if at all possible.

    Thanks...

Is there any particular reason you chose a clamp on gas block?

You should do some more gas block research.

I mistyped, I prefer clamp on to *set screw* Pinned is my preference overall. Regardless, my question still stands if we can get back to it...

    Thanks

The gas tube goes through the barrel nut.the rail will likely clear the gas block, but will have to install gas tube and block then slide rail on and tighten up.
Go to Larue tactical and watch the installation video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XOdeEx_bjo

I don't understand the predicament. You need to disassemble the entire upper. I have installed a handful of these over the years at some point. Not sure why the gas block is an issue for you. A set screw type which is much better than a clamp on is also going to be slimmer.

Warning: The guy in the attached video seems clueless, it was the first vid I could find the clearly shows the gas block / rail opening mechanics. I included it for that purpose ONLY If I could edit it to show only from 12:09 to 12:30 I would...

It's fairly well documented that clamp on blocks will not clear the opening in the rear of a LaRue handguard even though they will fit in the rail itself. Starting at 12:07 in this video shows what I'm talking about, but with a with a set screw block which clears. The Daniel Defense clamp on blocks fit inside the rail itself, however do not clear the cutout (shown about 12:11) Guys that have run clamp blocks leave the rail loose and move it around to get access to the clamp screws after the rail is slid past the gas port.

I was really hoping I would find someone who's dealt with this and could comment on modifying the opening to clear a DD type clamp on block.

I do appreciate you trying to help, I just think I'm not clearly explaining the issue. Hopefully the vid sheds some light on it.

Not too interested in debating the virtues of pinned vs clamped vs set screw as that ben done ad-nauseam on every forum I read.

May all be academic at this point as I just ordered a LaRue set screw block in a "I give up" moment...

Clamp on gas blocks suck. Unless you are religiously torquing them after each shoot they are going to come loose. Also the Larue rail is tantamount to putting a boat anchor on the end of your rifle there are much better choices out their for rails.

Do whatever you want. Modifying rail to use a substandard gas block makes little sense.
