Then the front sight post would have still been "almost even with the ears of the front sight base" even with an F-marked front sight base and a standard front sight post because there is no difference in the overall height of an F-marked front sight base compared to a standard front sight base. The only difference between the two front sight bases is the height of the sight “shelf” above the top of the barrel.

That .040 may not seem like much to the naked eye, but the .030 extended sight made a great deal of difference. Basically the difference between the shelf height.

He or I could care less how far the post extended. We were more concerned with a rifle that would hit what it was aimed at.

I'm sure with an LMT rear sight, or some type of mil spec carry handle this would have been less of an issue as they have an elevation adjustment.

Like I said, it matters sometimes.
