No problem, not putting your foot in mouth, instructor should have given people correct info. Hopefully we'll get some of this stuff corrected with the two bills that are in the NM Senate right now. We just need to keep up the pressure in the legislature, keep working on areas that are bad rules, fix them one at a time and over the next few years we'll have a good ccw process.

Thank you, sir, for recognizing that. I'm glad you and your colleagues understand the confusing nature of the rules being written the way they are. And of course, your continued efforts working with the legislative branch to fix this all is deeply appreciated. In any event, I am not against the qualification process. In fact, I'm in favor of it- it was a bit unnerving knowing some of the people in my class had very little (if any) formal training prior to enrolling. The two year requal isn't so a much a problem for me, except that it adds a high cost to stay licensed over the years; mandated fingerprinting after the initial licensing is just redundant. If a licensed carrier breaks the law, he's flagged any way, right? And I never understood the need to distinguish the category of firearm- yes, revolvers are different from semi auto hand guns, but the end result is the same when the trigger is pulled, no?

TN. started out saying that you had to qualify with each gun you intended to carry and the carry class issued a laminated card with weapon information. This was quickly thrown out the window. You can qualify with a 22 lr and then carry a larger caliber. Seems strange but that is the way it is.
I think this is the crux of the situation. It is very confusing, and it's possible I misunderstood what I heard because the wording is not precise. Perhaps that's what the instructors were trying to elaborate: the rules are written so awkwardly, that in order to prevent causing ourselves some headaches down the road, we would be best served qualifying with the bigger number for a given caliber. Just like the .357/38 spl, I see a similar issue with 44spl vs 45ACP in a revolver. I think terminally they perform very much alike, but how would it be viewed if a 44spl had a smidgen more lbf or FPS than the 45ACP? Any how, this horse is getting deader by the minute.
As for the TN law being changed, I guess that's a good thing for guys like Hickock45...he would have to carry a separate wallet for all the licenses.

We were lucky that we had just one cost for the license to cover more than one weapon. I may carry up to 4 different sidearms depending on the time of year/clothing and I sure couldn't afford $115 x 4.

Agreed. I love my USPc but with the grip length being what it is, I just can't conceal it like the G19 or even 1911 (full-sized) in the same 4 o'clock position, with the same brand of holster (RCS). It always cracks me up when non-firearms people think that a gun is a gun, and owning more than one is insane. As I mentioned earlier, I was able to borrow a large bore revolver while qualifying, so I got all wickets for carry options covered with one cost. How long is your license good for? Since we need to requalify every two years, and renew every four, a life time of carrying here in New Mexico can get expensive. Hopefully the bills I mentioned pass!

Our license is good for 4 yrs. and renewal is just $50. I haven't verified it yet but someone told me there has been talk about having them coincide with our drivers license which currently has to be renewed every 5 years.

That would be the cherry on top, IMHO. But then I think you live in a state where liberals are heard of, but not often seen

Ben Lujan and Michelle Grisham-Lujan are total JOKES. They support sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants. Lets vote them out.
