Yay! Done with the sling as of this evening (after dr visit) and get to start formal PT next week. Doc did chew me out for moving my shoulder around (raising it up front and side) on my own. Though I do think he was surprised I had that much mobility in it already... Still I guess I have to behave for 2 more weeks till I see Doc again. At least I am done with the sling and damned pillow at night! Won't have to sleep only on my back any more!

Therapy day one, was today. Got the ROM measured. Way better than they thought it would be, however there are some distinctly "tight" areas that will need lots of work. AFter the PT guy moved it all around, it was time to use the pulley to haul the arm up and down (straight ahead, 45deg and 90deg), and then it was time to walk the finger ladder up and down repeatedly. Then ice and a TENS unit for about 15min. It's a little achy now, but I expected that, and will probably use the heating pad tonight.

I'm due for shoulder surgery in two weeks. The doc says from the MRI that I have several things going on that need to be repaired. I have an impingement, probable SLAP tear, and issues with the bicep tendon. He wants to do a bicep release...cutting the tendon without reattaching it. I'm not crazy about that plan. He says the bicep release (tenotomy) will have the quickest recovery and allow me to get back to work quicker. I'm 45 and am still in very good shape. My shoulder doesn't hurt that bad unless I move it in a very specific range of motion.

Anyone have any thoughts on the bicep release/tenotomy? I think I prefer having it repaired and reattached.

I've had both versions of the biceps tendon done. One reattached, one left to reattach itself. PT says I should not notice any significant strength differences between methods once healed.
