    Need help Finding grips

This is my first post in the Revolver section; I don't know the first thing about them.

I'm a semi auto guy and pretty well versed in those circles. However, a very good friend has asked I help her find wood grips for a revolver her dad gave her years ago. Don't even know if its a J, K or L frame. I'm hoping someone here can help.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for wood grips with Smith & Wesson medallions? Or any other info.
    Thanks in advance.

Looks like a J frame. I've had pretty good luck with eBay for replacement factory S&W grips. Midway also sells replacement grips for s&w.

Your revolver looks like a Colt. J Frame grips won't fit.

Now that you say that.. I can make out the Colt markings on the frame.
Not sure why she said S&W. Any ideas on where to get Colt wood grips?

It looks like a Fifth Issue Colt Detective Special and the grips should be original. Post 1971 D frame grips should fit, but you may want to have a knowledgeable gunsmith look at it to be sure.

Here is a link with information about your wheel gun.

Cylinder release makes this obviously a Colt.

If she wants Colt wood grips eBay, or Gunbroker will be good bets.

I would look on the Coltforum in the classifieds. The latter grips for the DS had no medallions. I had a few that I sold around $70 per set a year ago. The original older checkered DS grips with medallion go for a bit more. Diamondback service grips go for around $200+.

    Colt revolvers get collector interest.
