    More vintage stuff

The other day, I got in a bunch of M16 parts that I had ordered. These will be parts for a XM16E1 clone build and probably another M16A1 clone build.

Here are some pics of what I got in today.

    E stock

    D stock

Colt "C H" upper with rear sight assembly and port door assembly

    Colt M16 BCG

    A1 handguards

    Small parts

I am working on getting a vintage Colt 20" 1/12 pencil barrel and several other parts for the builds. I already have a Nodak Spud partial-fence lower ordered for the XM16E1 build.

Since my last post, I have acquired two barrels (one for the late model XM16E1 and one for the mid-70s M16A1), receiver extensions, buffers, buffer springs, mottled pistol grips, and several other small parts. I have another Colt M16 BCG on its way as well as a few more small Colt parts. Still waiting on a no-forge code XM upper. The partial-fence lower for the XM has been ordered from Nodak Spud. I am waiting on ordering the lower for the M16A1 because McKay Enterprises is coming out with their newly retooled A1 lower. They are trying to get the correct shade of anodizing to match the XM Grey on Colt A1 uppers. That will, hopefully, happen in a couple weeks. Anyhow, that is the latest update on my current vintage/retro AR builds.

Got a couple more retro parts in today. Here are some pics of the GM no-forge code upper receiver and triangular handguards that will be used for my XM16E1 clone build.

These handguards will go great with the D stock and mottled PG I have for the XM16E1 build. All I need to do now is get the sight assembly for the upper. Also, I will be sending the upper to Victor at US Anodizing to be re-anodized in XM Grey to match the Nodak Spud XM lower.

Awesome! I'm am also trying to source parts for an
XM16E1 clone. I have the Nodak partial fence lower but that's it at the moment. Did you find these parts online or somewhere local to you?

Most all of the large pieces were bought from Indiana Army Surplus. About a month and a half ago, one of the guys on the ARFCOM retro forum alerted us that they were getting ready to sell a bunch of old M16 parts, so many of us started e-mailing them with our order request. The prices were better than you could find on the internet. Since they have had several orders, a lot of stuff is already gone. Some of the other parts were bought from SARCO, INC. and the barrels and a few small parts were bought from some ARFCOM members. The ARFCOM retro forum is a great place to find resources for retro AR builds.

You can contact Slim at Indiana Army Surplus by e-mailing him at sales@indianaarmysurplus.com or calling 812-275-2801. They are open Tues. - Sat. from 10am-5pm. He can probably tell you what they may still have available. The main things for the XM16E1 build will be: no-forge code upper, sight assembly, teardrop forward assist, D stock, barrel assembly, triangular handguards, A1 pistol grip, and BCG. The BCG will depend on which version you want to build. Chrome for the early and phosphate for the late. If you have not done so already, go to http://www.retroblackrifle.com/ and click on Military Rifles and then Colt Model 603 / XM16E1. That will give you a good breakdown of many of the characteristics of the XM16E1.

Me too. I ordered a few other pieces today - an original A1 rear sight assembly (for GM no-forge code upper) and two original M16 charging handles (one for the XM16E1 and the other for the M16A1). Still waiting on my barrel for the M16A1. USPS has lost it somewhere in my city. Hopefully, I will have the NDS-XM16E1 lower (partial-fence) soon. The M16A1 clone lower is going to take a while longer.

I got in a few more things for my XM16E1 and M16A1 clone builds I am working on. I received two original M16 charging handles, an original A1 rear sight assembly, and a C MP B barrel (for M16A1). I already have a C MP C barrel for the XM16E1.

Here are the charging handles and rear sight assembly

Here are the two upper assemblies (mock ups)

My lower XM16E1 will be here Wednesday. I have the M16A1 lower is on order. It may be some months before it is ready.

My NDS-XM16E1 lower should arrive at my dealer this Wednesday. Going to use it for a 604 build.

UPS is showing my NDS-XM16E1 lower arrives Wednesday as well. I have the 604 on my list to do as well as a 605. Right now, I just want to get these two done.

I got my M16A1 upper built a couple days ago.
