Thumbs up For you AK types....

FYI....Got this notice on an email today from the armory: 7.62x39 FMJ & HP for $179.00 per 1000 rounds. Sounds like a good deal.

If you're gonna use Wolf ammo in your AK, and there's no reason not to, use the Wolf Military Classic 124gr JHP. It uses the Ulyanovsk 8M3 bullet which does indeed penetrate adequately and still readily fragments.

You can get it at about the same price point too.

FYI- make sure that your AK likes hollowpoints before you go and buy a ton of em/rely on them in desperate times etc.

you may be able to chamfer your feedramp a little to get it feeding them.

Damn, I don't even have an AK at the moment and I am thinking of picking up a case at this price!

Wow, 3 or 4 years ago it was $100 cheaper.

FWIW you can get Russian surplus 5.45x39mm for $120/1080 rounds...

But, you need a rifle that chambers that caliber!!!

BTW, how does terminal performance compare between the 5.45x39 and the 7.62x39 with the Ulyanovsk 8M3 bullet? I've never seen much info on the 5.45...

I saw that. I'm still waiting for someone to get the AK-74 types back in stock. Seems everyone is getting the same idea...

Well lookee here! I found a quick blurb by Doc GKR on the 5.45 caliber in the first paragraph:

From what I've read in the above page, I'm thinking if you're just punching paper, you can buy a 5.45x39 cal. bench rifle to save money so you can shoot that cheaper round. I'd rather spend a little more on ammo and keep practicing with what I may have to use to save my life someday...
