I mean... the NFA community has a few bad apples, mostly concentrated in machine guns and then a healthy amount in silencers.
Other than that, there's some goofballs to be found in certain niche areas (the 1911 community has quite a few) but for the most part they're good people.
Something about HK seems to attract ripoff artists and dirtbags like no other.
Didn't mean it that way, I wasn't trying to offer a parallel with Ghillibear and Bailey. I was commenting more on the rabid defense and attacks associated with the HK clone market. Fanboys coming out of the woodwork to declare Special Weapons / Coharie / Bobcat, etc. to be "as good" or "better" than factory HK stuff and being serious about it.
It really isn't the HK guys who are the problem. Those with factory guns and contracts know what they have and there is little room for debate. But let somebody make a clone and those who buy one get heavily invested in defending the honor of their firearms.
I can still remember people claiming their guns built with POF parts were superior to German guns because they were "hand crafted by dedicated smiths." Then there were the guys who thought they actually had true HKs because they built a MP5 parts kit on a flat that Todd Bailey "claimed" was factory HK even though it was completely devoid of any markings whatsoever.
Reminds me of guys who used to put Mercedes hood ornaments on vehicles that were of Japanese origin.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
Chuck, we miss ya man.
