    OP here.

A lot's changed since I'd started this thread, lol. PTR went back to the Navy lower configuration, for one, which I'm glad for.

Newest question (I know, I should've picked one up by now) is: Comparing the SCAR 17 and the PTR-91 A3R, is the former really worth 3x the price of the latter? I've been doing some reading, and the general consensus is that the SCAR is AR-user friendly as far as controls and ergonomics go, but the G3 design has always felt like it was made for me (I've got a 77" fingertip-to-fingertip arm span).

Also, in the time span since starting this thread, I've had a minor work-related injury that banged up my shoulder a bit, and have found this article. My biggest question is, does changing out the PTR Locking Piece with an HK21's affect reliability at all? As a rule, I run decent quality ammo through everything I have, range/plinking outings included, so underpressured 7.62x51 and non-brass casings aren't an issue. In fact, I'll likely be running Hirtenberger or MEN through it.

I've had a PTR-32 for a while now (7.62x39 & AK mags) and I've had no issues with mine, other than it doesn't like surplus Yugo M67 which seems to be a common issue. With good quality ammo it's one of the most accurate rifles in 7.62x39 I have, easily beating my WASR & Draco AKs, and my VZ2008. If I get in to .308 I'd look hard at an HK clone.

My biggest complain is the weight of the barrel, it feels very nose heavy. Not my first choice if I had to carry it all day. As a range/fun gun it's great. Surplus parts are still cheap (although they won't stay that way forever) and it's easy to work on. Tough enough for serious use but for a grand there are a lot of other good choices as well.

No plans to upgrade mine, I'm gonna enjoy it as it is, a fine piece of military history. Even if it's a bastardized caliber.

    HK actually made a 32.

Yeah, the only thing cooler is early MP5s with similar wood forearms.

After my review I found mine did that with M67 and Federal American Eagle as well. Just doesn't play well with brass case ammo; with the AE it was doubling.
