Studies that exist suggest a benefit in a variety of chronic pain syndromes, but more data is needed. Now that medical marijuana becoming more accepted and legal in more states, we should start to see more studies. Worth a read however:

Does CBD oil work for chronic pain management?

While many people use cannabidiol oil to relieve pain, more scientific research is needed to be certain it can be safely used. Understanding cannabidiol can help overcome the stigma associated with it.

Some people experience side effects when taking cannabidiol (CBD) oil and there are other things to consider before using CBD oil for pain.

In this article, we look at how CBD oil works and how it can be used to relieve chronic pain.

The key phrase in these discussions is "more data is needed". That, of course, will continue to be difficult as long as all of the cannabimimetic agents remain on Schedule 1 and illegal to prescribe.

Note what I had bolded, so obviously I agree with you. Legal in some states, but until the fed schedule status changes, will continue to be an uphill battle to be sure.

Was reading this at the NIH web site, thought it was worth a bump to the thread. The National Cancer Institute via the National Institutes of Health (NIH) discusses some of the possible benefits of cannabinoids/CBD and cannabis:

    What are cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are active chemicals in Cannabis that cause drug-like effects throughout the body, including the central nervous system and the immune system. They are also known as phytocannabinoids. The main active cannabinoid in Cannabis is delta-9-THC. Another active cannabinoid is cannabidiol (CBD), which may relieve pain and lower inflammation without causing the "high" of delta-9-THC.

Cannabinoids may be useful in treating the side effects of cancer and cancer treatment.

Other possible effects of cannabinoids include:

    Anti-inflammatory activity.

    Blocking cell growth.

Preventing the growth of blood vessels that supply tumors.

    Antiviral activity.

Relieving muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis.

Too bad they didn't test a non synthetic version against it, but one can patent synthetic molecules, so...

    Synthetic Cannbinoid Reduces Sleep Apnea

A synthetic version of a molecule found in the cannabis plant was safe and effective in treating obstructive sleep apnea in the first large, multi-site study of a drug for the sleep disorder funded by the National Institutes of Health. The study was conducted at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Northwestern Medicine.

There currently is no drug treatment for sleep apnea, a sleep breathing disorder affecting about 30 million individuals in the United States and linked to numerous health problems. In sleep apnea, breathing is interrupted. These pauses can last from a few seconds to several minutes and can occur 30 times or more in an hour. Untreated sleep apnea raises the risk of heart disease, diabetes, sleepiness and cognitive impairment, as well as the risk of having a motor vehicle accident.

The common treatment for sleep apnea is a continuous positive airway pressure device, or CPAP, that is worn during sleep and forces air into the lungs to prevent breathing pauses. But long-term adherence to the device is poor and many patients simply stop using it.

Researchers investigated the effect of dronabinol, a synthetic version of the molecule tetrahydrocannabinol, or Delta-9 THC, which is found in cannabis, on sleep apnea in a Phase 2 clinical trial – the largest and longest randomized, controlled trial to test a drug to treat sleep apnea. The drug was approved by the Food and Drug Administration more than 25 years ago to treat nausea and vomiting in chemotherapy patients.

Their findings were published recently in the journal SLEEP.

“There is a tremendous need for effective, new treatments in obstructive sleep apnea,” said study co-lead David Carley, Katherine M. Minnich Endowed Professor Emeritus of biobehavioral health sciences, medicine and bioengineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago and co-lead author on the paper.

When I saw the source I thought "WTF?" knowing that's not happening in FL, and unlikely to ever happen in FL. Clicking on it, I see it's socialist paradise of Hawaii. Similar was posted in the other thread on legalization discussions where this is focused on possible medical uses.

Having said that, this appears a perfect end run around the 2A for anti gun states as an easy way to grab guns. If I were in a state that had legal MM but was anti gun, I'd be hard pressed seeing that to use MM. Yet again, choosing between viable low toxicity treatment over a Cont Right, which sucks donkey nads and further illiterates their true intent

Medical use of marijuana 2,700 years ago.

It's interesting to note he was buried with pot and a harp. Some things never change.
