Talk to me about Giessele Rails...

Looking for advice and thoughts on a new rail. Really like an older Giessele rail I own so, I'll go back to one! It will be going in an 18" SPR... Prefer a 15" hand guard.

Anyone have thoughts on which is the best model, or... If there is a better option out there for an SPR build?

Thanks and looking forward to replies,

    Bobby Cundiff

MK-8, hands down. It has nothing extra weighing down that long barrel.

That's kind of what I was leaning toward...

I built an 18" upper using the 15" MK4 rail...I chose the MK4 for the integrated picatinny rail sections on the front so i can use it with a bipod. Very nice rail and a snap to install.

I wouldn't think the integrated picatinny rails add a significant amount of weight.

I have a 14.5" with a 13"mk5. Great rail. I chose the mk5 because it had keymod, which is in line with my NSR rails. I wanted to keep it consistent so my rail accessories can be swapped between rails.

    15" MK4 13.1oz, 15.0oz w/ hardware
    15" MK8 12.4oz, 14.3oz w/ hardware

so you are talking 0.7oz increase for the integrated picatinny rail

I'm going mk4 on my spr. I want the integrated picatinny section upfront for a bipod.

For what it's worth, I wanted a 15" MK 8 for a sprish/precision 18 rifle. Primary Arms has the 13inch on sale for Black Friday for $175 (30% off) through Sunday. For me the $100 savings was worth loosing the 2 inches.

For what it's worth, if you're building an SPR with an SPR-profile barrel and you plan on using an Ops Inc 12th suppressor (specifically what the SPR barrel is profiled for), you'll want the 13" rail. The 15" rail is too long for the suppressor to mount correctly.
