Light primer strikes when cycling rounds through chamber?

Hey guys, what does this mean?

    image.jpg

I get these light primer strikes if I'm cycling rounds through the chamber from the magazine. I don't remember my other ar ever doing this.

I have an Aero Precision barrel, mated to a Damage Industries upper, I've got a mil spec bolt carrier I purchased from a member on this forum with an Aim Surplus 158 carpenter bolt. The firing pin I just got from EBay. Does this mean my head spacing is messed up? Or could it be an out of speck firing pin or bolt carrier group all together? I have not tested the headspace, with gauges on this rifle yet. Thanks for the help guys.

Totally normal to get light primer strikes when cycling rounds. ARs have a floating firing pin.

It also means you shouldn't be cycling live rounds through your weapon. Get some dummy rounds.

Why does this mean I should stop cycling live rounds through my gun?

You're risking a slam fire. You can see the primer strikes, all it takes is for one light off and someone could get hurt.
Get snap caps or load up dummy rounds if you want to cycle rounds safely.

Sounds good. My thoughts though are if there is a risk of a slam fire, shouldn't the light primer strikes not happen at all. I mean, if when a round is being loaded into the chamber while I am firing it, and it goes off without the trigger being pulled. Isn't that a problem?

Many a round has been sent through ceiling drywall from slam fires.

Gotcha. Loud and clear. I'll load up some dummy rounds.
