    AK trigger finger placement

    Hi All,

Question to those who went through AK classes. Have your instructors mentioned or taught placement of the trigger finger UNDER the trigger? Like this

It was my understanding it was. What method was it then? Every time I look into it, the stupidity of the Internet commandos turns me away.

It's something that was taught in the Soviet Union so some people think that's the correct way to run an ak.

He's showing how people stick their finger through the trigger guard, and put pressure with their nail on the trigger guard, creating outward tension away from the trigger. That's the one he refers to as being taught by the Russians. He slipped showing the other method of putting excessive force on the magazine release, which is beveled and can cause a finger to slip. Both are shown in the DVD that came out long before this drama.

I have seen the DVD, and I have much respect for Mr. Haley. That said, I really wish he hadn't shown the two Russian methods. It gives stupid internet commandos evidence that you don't *need* to use the safety, which I understand was not the point. This is going to be one of those things that good instructors (Travis included) are going to have to deal with now.

The stupid internet commandos will do as they've always done, regardless of today's latest drama.

IIRC, he recommends against both methods in the DVD. I thought it was more of a history lesson than a training lesson.
