Interesting. This M4 RAS was a new one direct from Knights. They told me a few months back they were out of stock for civilian orders because they were fulfilling a DOD contract. When their website showed them in stock again (within the past 4 weeks), I ordered quickly. This Colt Commando 6933 is about 4 years old and was a safe queen. From my unprofessional opinion, and using small flashlights to examine the issue (with the help of my wife), it definitely was a barrel nut tine issue on the left and right side.

You get this figured out, OP? Having the same exact issue now with a 6933... Have also installed plenty of these w/ no issue. It's a freaking drop in quad rail after all... Ah.

    Tips appreciated.

KAC hasn't changed anything with the M4 RAS.
Colt buys them by the truck-load from us, and they haven't complained.

My bet: it's the barrel nut.

What do you think is wrong with the barrel nut and what do you recommend I do to finish this 2 min project in.... 2 mins.

Potentially the barrel nut is dicked up (teeth) and it is preventing the rail from seating. If it was me, I would pull the slip ring back all the way to the receiver and examine the teeth. If that isn't the issue I would have to guess that the nut is clocked a little off.

Without seeing it, I'd have to agree with IG.

I have had similar problems installing on different uppers. It definitely sounds like you have experience with it. I have noticed 2 problems installing them. 1. The tension screw is removed but the clamp is not in the correct position to allow it to seat properly to clear the delta. It looked like it was but had to move it with a screw driver to the correct postion before it popped in. I believe #2 was related to #1 except when I used the delta tool to compress it far enough to clear, the delta springs partially flattened. So I had to re-install a new set of springs. This was on a DSA upper. Eventually I got it put together.

I got nothing. I guess using the laws of elimination, if the barrel nut and everything is right, it can only be operator headspace or the rail.

Colt loves to slather their ARs with preservative. I had to clean the preservative out from behind the barrel nut on two Colts to get the Magpul Slimline handguards to fit
