Would it be possible to take a rifle length MOE handguard and turn it into a cutout rail for a carbine lenght rifle with a FSP?

Would it be possible to take a rifle length MOE handguard and turn it into a cutout rail for a carbine lenght rifle with a FSP?

I can't see how it would work without gaining prominence in the "Gunsmithing Hall of Shame" thread. MOE handguards need a front handguard cap to plug into, which is behind the front sight.
