    Please evaluate my build list

    Hi folks,

I'm looking to build a 9mm Mk18 clone: 10-11" barrel with a free float quad rail running the full length of the barrel.

So here's what I am thinking of putting together:

    Standard Aero Precision stripped lower
PSA premium LPK (leftover from another build)
Milspec receiver extension (receiver end plate with swivel and castle nut)
    Colt 9mm buffer
    Carbine length spring
    RRA or Colt 9mm BCG
Hahn Precision OR Rock River Arms magwell block (thoughts or opinions?)
    Ballistics Advantage 9mm 11" barrel
Basic A2 style birdcage (capable of passing 9mm)
    Free float quad rail

Any glaring omissions? Any opinions on the parts I selected? Any better value options? I do believe "buy once cry once" but if there's a less expensive equally good way of doing things, I am not opposed to not crying at all.

What is the proper length for the quad rail on that setup to get the look I am after?

    Many thanks in advance.

Well...you said "MK18 clone" and then described something like this,

    Decide what purpose this rifle will serve;

Shoot dirt clogs out to X amount of yards, show it off to friends, maybe a truck gun, competition/training gun, home defense, etc.

Does weight matter? Does reliability matter?
    Will the lower be registered?

Plenty of advice is waiting for you once you decide what you want.

The DD Mk18 I included a picture of is relatively similar to the image you posted.

All ARs are registered where I live. Barrel length isn't relevant here - the fact that it is based on an AR receiver is enough to relegate this to being a range toy only.

    Cheers,

11" is a looooong barrel for 9mm, why not go shorter?

I guess the obvious question to ask from my perspective is why go shorter? Is there an advantage to going shorter? I have and enjoy a 12.5" upper in 5.56 - I imagine an 11" barrel to have similar ergonomics to that. Certainly more similar than say an 8" barrel.

Candidly, I am frustrated that I am asking for comments on part selection and the only comments are telling me to decide on purpose and to change my barrel length for an unspecified reason.

Does anybody have any experience building a similar rifle? Does anybody have any experience with the parts (or alternatives) I am looking at? I'm especially seeking people who can say, "I used a Hahn Precision block and it worked great" or "I used a Ballistics Advantage barrel and it was junk" or "I tried a mil-spec FCG with the Colt bolt and it didn't work but the ACT did".

    Thanks,

    P

I guess I'm just wondering why, with all the dedicated 9mm lowers out there now, you want to go with a standard lower and add an adapter to the magwell.

I have the lower already. If I were buying everything from scratch, I would look at the dedicated lower. A friend is also willing to sell me a bunch of colt mags pretty cheap too.
