It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

I think the first few thousand AUGs made in Australian for their military had to be scrapped because they were out of spec or had issues.
I don't see how they are going to export the new semiauto AUG to the US since it is similar to the AUGs that were banned from import. The current Steyrs are made in the US with a mix of Austrian and US parts. This includes enough US parts to qualify under 922 whatever.
The Australian company would have to partner with a US company or produce part of the guns in the US.
Then there is the issue of getting the whole thing done before the next election.
Hmm, that's probably mostly true. Most of Europe is certainly pretty restrictive about who can own what, but if you're willing to spend the time and the money, I suppose you can get Glocks in Austria, USPs/VPs/P2ks/P30s and MR223s in Germany, &c. (Not sure about FALs/FNCs/SCARs in Belgium, though. And ditto anything "military caliber" in Italy.)
Red Chinese and Russian imports have mostly dried up - at least of the more interesting firearms, although 1897 repros and the like are still available and (like all other firearms) still very banned in Red China. And while it is also extremely difficult to own a firearm in Japan, that's only really a concern if you like modern production Winchesters and Brownings.
Not sure about the laws in Turkey and Pakistan, though. (Not that I think I'd buy a Pakistani firearm. Turkey, eh, they're part of NATO, so I guess I can suck it up a little bit, even if I'm not fond of their government. Not that I think that supporting ISIS and genociding Kurds and Armenians is somehow better than the ISI supporting al-Qaeda and the Pakistani military's quiet refusal to permanently push militant Islamists out of the country. But I digress.)
