I have an FSB put on my M&P 15-22 with set screws, and I have removed the end cap on the handguards to free float the barrel so that I can shoot with sling support. The handguard moves a lot more on the 22 than on a full size aluminum receiver (of course). I left a decent gap between the handguards and the FSB, but I sometimes touch the two together.
I'm thinking about buying a 10" ALG rail with the 15% off sale this weekend to combine with a Tacticool22 barrel nut adapter. I'll still have the plastic receiver, but I'm hoping that the new handguard interface will help. I have this rail on a 20" rifle (a 13" rail cut to 12.625" to fit behind the FSB) and it is very nice for the price.
For those of those of you that have free floated your 15-22, did it reduce the amount that the handguard flexes?
