Carbine system is only over gassed if the gas port is too large

I believe it was said on this forum some time back that KAC sees a loss of like 33-40% in bolt life with HPT.
I specifically buy Centurion Arms BCGs because they do not HPT their bolts.

I wonder how much of an "improvement" of the felt impulse of this will be. I also wonder how to quantify improvevements.

When I was introduced to some possible changes that started long before my introduction over a generation ago, most issues were confined to the base upper/ lower receiver limitations. I've been open to many possible advantages that could be had. There is a very limited amount of space and time available to do what we really could do. There have been some great prototype models that are a significant improvement, but they were different enough to be non standard to the base receivers in many ways. For at least the last 20+ years, we could have a next generation model, but the market determines the demand. There are some things that we can do within the confines of the system, but many gains are balanced with losses. I would rather be in a position of more gains with minimal losses, even if that required more deviations to the original model.

It might be best to just state all the pros and cons, and let the users decide--for example those of us outside the Select Fire Club might place "positive last-round hold-open" more important than potential cyclic rate and rate-of-fire.

This is what I'm most interested.

Does this change not only the time spent between unlocking the lugs and re locking the lugs, but also the time spent while the gas piston is pressurized and the lugs remaining locked?

There's some better options on the table if we are open to making some base changes to the receivers. That's when we can really see more of the gains without so many losses. It will require a demand for that, there's no reason to make it without a market for it.

And speaking as a noob just looking at the modern politico-legal landscape, my bet is it'll be easier to sell upper changes than lowers. The lower is, after all, the part that's legally the gun and "grandfathered" in Ban Zones, while uppers can be dismantled and part-swapped away as long as they don't technically get built into a "new gun." If a Lower engineering change is to take off, it will probably have to originate with DOD, and with how resistant they've been to even making the SOPMOD improvements general-issue I don't see any real change from "we're gonna keep doing what we've always done" even if the difference is only pennies per rifle. I'm surprised Big Green and Big (Sky) Blue even hopped on the PMAG bandwagon... though I'm even more surprised that once they did they didn't insist on their own vanity colors just because "the Marines got their special color, so we need our own too."
