A1 versus A2 peep scallop direction

Can anyone tell me why the scallop on the A2's small peep aperture was flipped around as compared to the A1's?

Reviving this because the answer would be an interesting bit of trivia, if anyone knows.

I have read some info that the A2 semi spherical aperture was a variation (not necessarily a good one) of the recessed face on match type sight apertures.

The A1 apertures appear more cone shaped from what I can see and look a lot like the hole from a pilot drill. Not sure why unless the back side was to act as a relief cut to achieve a smooth hole maybe?

FAL rear sights have that cone shaped cut on the back side also.
