    Need help finding TEMS gear...

My agency is VERY slowly coming around to the thought of IFAK and tourniquets for individual deputies. We have finally been taught TCCC, but have not received and may not receive the actual medical gear. With the rate of mass casualty incidents, we need these items. Is there any group/company out there that donates (just looking for tourniquets, chest seals, and combat gauze for 25 guys) medical gear to law enforcement? I understand that NAR does GSA pricing, but that may be out of the picture for now.

When I left the military 4 years ago, I had bags and bags of medical gear and ended up losing most of it all. For some reason I have a bag of H Bandages and burn kits, but not a single CAT, chest seal, or pack of combat gauze. I wish I still had all that gear!

Decent prices, vast selection and unitized kits for everything.

Donations are always one of the hardest things to get in motion. Luckily, these days the folks that back the police are jumping in line to help out, at least in certain areas. In my neck of the woods, a very large church raised money to acquire about 1500 IFAKs for our guys and they were distributed amongst the rank and file. Being a TEMS guy myself, I went to my fire department buddies and got hooked up with a TON of med supplies. The only thing I had to supply was a bag for a large kit, and I've made up a few small kits for the guys on my unit. My unit brass liked the idea and finally bought pre-made kits from North American Rescue.

Twenty-five guys is a good number to get started with and you might be able to hit up the hospitals and local FD's for some support. You might be able to get with a local pro-police organization to help out. Heck, even have your better half can start a FB page. We have one called "Indiana Going Blue" and it has tremendous support. I'd think you'd be able to generate some donation scratch through there to help out. +/- $50 per kit x 25 officers = $1,250...raise $1500 and that would help buy some good kits.

You can get a decent IFAK for $40 or less. Try this one: http://www.tacmedsolutions.com/produ...d-officer-kit/. A TQ, dressing with gauze, and stuff to make an occlusive. See other areas of that site for kits in the $50-$100 range that include a chest seal, hemostatic gauze, etc.

25 DOKs is $1000, $80 kits would be $2000. There should be more than one group in your local area looking for a great PR opportunity with a donation. That being said, I would ask your leadership to step up for such a small amount. Save a donation request for something more substantial.
