Finally ordered a 4'x8'x3/8" sheet of AR400 for long range shooting can't wait to get it setup. Its difficult to spot misses where we shoot its way to green most of the year even in winter.

I would want to shoot it just because.
Hit the surrounding area with roundup if possible. Buy a spotting scope and have your buddy spot for you.

I'd have half the field dead but in a different target location that would work well
Just paint a silhouette on the steel and call your hits and misses. Should be great fun.

We've found that 1/4" AR500 works best at 1000. 3/8" does not offer enough audible signature. If you have it painted and can drive out to it for paint touch ups, 3/8 should offer good visual.

77gr 223 at 700 yards 1/4 mild steel will work it will even work at 600 yards with that caliber. I only went with 3/8" AR400 because a buddy shoots a 338 Lapua

Your right on the sound 3/8" rings ok when my buddy hits it with a 338 my 6.5 Creedmoor can be herd with muffs that amplify ambient sound, 223 not really at all. I paint it white the visual as long as mirage is not bad is good even with 223 at 900 yards. If the rain ever takes a break we will move the target to a better location when the neighboring farmer gets his field cut and bailed. 900 yards with a 20" AR is a lot of fun I'm going to need a 20 Moa rail on that gun to get to 1000 yards at 900 yards I had everything dialed on my scope and was still holding an extra mil in elevation.
