I had two G3K's and overall I feel that particular barrel length is quite handy for a .308 rifle.
Interesting. I had a HK51 for a long time, (JLD receiver and G3 part kit with chopped factory barrel) and while it was a fun "blammo" gun it couldn't begin to produce anything close to the accuracy of my 91 or any of my 16" barrel Colts. A friend of mine had a DSA OSW and while it had lots of cool factor I could easily out shoot it with a basic AKM and iron sights.

If 7.62 ammo was still $150 for 1,000 rounds I'd probably not care and would do a SIG SBR as another novelty gun, but given the price of 7.62 anymore it's become a performance round for me and is mostly for things 100 yards and beyond.

I get that most SBRs are kinda CQB by default, but that brings up another issue. For awhile I was using a factory G3 as my dedicated HD rifle, until I actually fired my G3 during some indoor training drills. The only thing worse was 12 ga. Right now my default HD guns are a MP5 and a Colt 6945 - both suppressed.

I can't believe they're still not sold out.

I think the challenge is the total cost of ownership. I have a 550 sp2, a 551, and a 553. I’ve also paid for a 553r, so I am used to the sticker shock. For the cost of a 751 and 20 magazines and a decent optic you are at 6 grand plus. Lot of money for a 14 inch 308.

Should i dump a 416 upper and use the funds towards a 751 SAPR pistol ? I assume it is effective to six hundred meters. 1/11 barrel twist. A SAPR would be different from the other crap I have. A 416 upper does not offer much more than a standard Colt AR. I am tossing the idea around. Thinking of a TA-31 ACOG ACSS reticle with a ERA-TAC cantilever mounted T-1.

If JDI ever closed shop, would you be able to find a spare magazine?

If possible, please kindly provide me with your advice / comments. Will the recoil from a SAN SAPR be an issue, with the TA-31 ACOG. Never used an ACOG with the .308. The eye relief from the TA-31 is not the best. I have tossed around the idea of using a TA-31 ACOG with the ACSS reticle and a ERA-TAC cantilever mounted T-1.

I read about a shooter who claimed to receive a gash on his eyebrow from the TA-31, while using a 7.62x39 weapon. The TA-31 ACOG ACSS is 'marketed' with the reticle being compatible, with the .308.

I would guess most people would recommend the Elcan Specter DR 1-4 optic. FYI - I am a certified optics snob.

I would personally skip the ACOG and put a good low power variable on the 751. Allows it to be a 0-600m rifle. The ACOG, while robust, limits you to a fixed power and the eye relief sucks. Adding a t1 will add yet more weight to an already heavy rifle and I cannot see how the cantilever mount won’t interfere with the charging handle, unless you’re a lefty. Of all the low power variable I think the Kahles k16i with sm-1 reticle is king of The Hill. The cost will be pretty close, maybe less than the ACOG/T1 combo.

There is a lot to like about the Elcan 1x/4x, I personally prefer the Kahles, also prefer my old Steiner 1-4 to the Elcan.

And....a Swiss rifle deserves excellent Teutonic glass.

    Josh,

Thanks for the reply and information. I am concerned with the lack of eye relief with the TA-31 and the recoil from the .308. The Kahles is a superb scope and the glass is just about the best you can locate. The Elcan DR reticle, is dated. In the past, you recommended the Kahles when I was looking for something similar. I like your thinking.

I have owned the Elcan and still own the Kahles. It is the clear winner when comparing the two. Mine currently lives on my Larue when it is wearing its 16in 308 barrel. I might move it to the SAPR part time when I get my 260 barrel zeroed on the Texan. I can't think of a scope better suited for 751 SAPR than the Kahles. I have only two complaints, if you could call them that. The turrets turn backwards, and the reticle could get a little dimmer for low light hunting. I was blown away how well the Kahles did in low light this last hunting season.
