PSA dedicated colt lower, feed problems

    Good day.

First post. Dont go online forums much.

Hoping someone here could shed some light on a problem I am having.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my thoughts..... I tend to ramble.

I will discuss the problem. Then list the components of my build.

My pistol is having issues feeding. The issue is the round over shooting the chamber and wedging between the bolt and the chamber lip. This happens from both sides of the magazine but predominantly from the left side.

    Image of problem.

Using PSA magazines made by Metalform

Alot of people running blocks had issues with the ramp catching the round. It is not adjustable in the dedicated lower but I have smoothed and polished it and does not catch.

Also I have shortened the LRBHO lever as it was hitting the rounds in the magazine and prematurely locking.

The magazines are loose in the well but nothing more than usual with any production AR.

I have gotten the jams to about 20% now.

I was wondering if perhaps the chamber design on this ballistic advantage barrel could be too sharp and perhaps crowning it would allow the rounds to feed rather than stick.

Any advice or guidance would be great. Thank you and have a great day.

It seems like nobody has had any experience with these products from PSA. I could be wrong but doesn't PSA recommend to only use their PSA branded upper halves with their 9mm lowers? It just appears you have some parts that are not meant to function together and the feeding problems are showing that.

    Awesome!

And yes they recommend using their hybrid uppers.

Which are just uppers with ramped bolts for use with colt or glock mags.

The upper itself is not special. Tho I'm curious if I shouldn't try a barrel from them

Maybe the design on their barrels is a little different then yours? Looks like there is a pretty large gab between your ramp on the lower and the chamber

That is something I'm considering. Or possibly modifying my current barrel.

But I feel that a 9mm chamber is the same across all barrel brands.

Feel like the feed ramp needs adjusting but I do not know how

No ideas here, but have you tried contacting PSA about the issue? I called them recently about a PSA9 build and someone answered the phone, they paid for return shipping, inspected it, and sent it back on their dime as well. It was actually quite a good experience.

Contacted PSA with an email detailing everything I included in this post and their suggestion was to utilize on of their hybrid G9 bolts.

They indicated that the barrel manufacturer should not be an issue as I inquired if I needed their barrel or upper.

I have researched this bolt carrier; it is a two-piece design which I do not like and it is not compatible with the folding stock adapter I have.

In my research I have seen that the main distinction of this is that it is cut for glock mags and ramped for traditional trigger use.

The bolt I have now has the same features but is compatible with my adapter after modifying the internal weight.

It runs reliably in numerous other firearms. I do not believe it to be the issue.

My next step will be modifying the magazine lips and follower as this appears to have a good effect on feeding.

I will update with pictures after I have finished the modifications

I have seen this before and the issue is caused by bolt speed or ramp angle, if you slowly hand cycle a dummy round does the round line up with the chamber or does it still impact high? If the round is lined up with the chamber then your bolt speed maybe to fast and its launching the round off the feed ramp causing the high angle malfunction. Try the slow hand cycle with the dummy round and let me know what you see.
We are all inclined to judge ourselves by our ideals; others, by their acts.
