What finish is on the Octane FDE?

I bought one in December, specifically from a place that had them in stock.

    I almost did the K,
But did not want to mess with stuff not in stock.

    Stamp is back,
But even though I bought a FDE one,
They got me the stamp on one and they screwed up and it is a black one.

They are going to cerakote it for me to make up for the mistake,
Except for the square where the SN is.

I was under the impression the factory finish more impressive than cerakote.

This is two NFA cluster fvcks in a row this year.

First Botach sends a 16 inch barrel ARX after I bought an SBR,
Now these guys stamp the wrong silencer for me.

A few years ago (2013) the process was:

Current process for the coating is a FDE Hardcoat anodizing then it gets sprayed with FDE Gun-kote for a uniform finish.

Not sure if that was the only method they used or not. I know several places Cerakote them FDE.

Don't worry about the finish man. Pistol cans don't get "rifle cans" hot. Cerakote it whatever finish you want. That being said, I consider the finish a "limited life component" on a suppressor. I have an FDE Saker and it is holding up though the finish is discolored in some areas. If the Octane has the same finish of the Saker, it holds up well. I don't know if its Cerakote. However, if you want a uniform FDE color, you're gonna have to recoat often.

It's a muffler for a gun. It's gonna get hot and finishes are going to burn off. Just recoat it if you have to have it look a certain way... Personally, I don't care, as long as it does it's job.

The point is they screwed up an NFA purchase.

Now they get to shell out to cerakote it,
When the factory ones were PVD or anodized.

    I don't get what I paid for,
They spend their profit fixing their mistake.

    Hell,
How much do mistakes cost companies?

I bought the last of a zero turn the dealer had.
It was last years model and the new ones would not be in for weeks.
I got it for ten perfect off the price, plus a rebate for another ten percent.

Then some genius sold it to somebody else even thought it was the last one.

So I got a new model year one,
That was not ten percent off and did not have a ten percent rebate,
For what I paid for the one they screwed up.

The web page of a company said they had eleven rolls of fencing. I called and they checked their computer and I said hold them and went to pick them up. They could only find four, it was an hour trip. They were in their computer stock but they could not find them. Another half hour trip to a sister store and I got a significant discount.

But you can't unscrew an NFA deal easily.
And I get some shittier coating.
If I wanted to spray paint a can I would have got the black K one they had in stock instead.
I did not want to wait a couple of extra months on top of the seven it has been though.

    Although, to mention it,
I have bought about a hundred guns from gun shops, transfers to gun shops, etc.
In all those purchases, I have had one mistake. It was the equivalent of they got me a Glock 17 instead of a Glock 19.

    With NFA purchases,
Two out of seven have been jacked up.

I think that if you explained the issue to SilencerCo they would probably put a factory coating on your can for free. Call them and tell them about the SNAFU. Most manufacturers are going to back you up, especially SilencerCo. Show them your invoice from the dealer that you ordered an FDE Octane and what you got was not. The worst they can do is say no and if they try to charge you, send the invoice to the dealer.

Nobody here is arguing with you on that. Yes, they screwed up the transaction.

I thought you were asking a question about getting the can refinished.

After looking at my Octane (black), it does appear to be anodized. If SiCo anodizes the FDE version, no coating will be as durable.

    Yep.
    As I thought.

No real way to fix it.

At this point, I am pretty disgusted with NFA transactions.

So many CFs with stuff that is no easy fix.

My FDE Octane doesn't appear to be anodized. Scratches on it are black, like the FDE coating was scratched off revealing a black anodized layer underneath.

Have the FFL send it to the mfg for the proper coating you ordered, on their dime.

Maybe consider a new NFA dealer?
