    .357 mag gel test: Barnes 140 gr VOR-TX revolver

    Barnes 140 gr VOR-TX solid copper hollow point fired from 4" S&W Model 13 through four layers of denim into calibrated 10% gelatin.

    BB: 595.1 fps, 3.1"

    Impact velocity: 1,348 fps
    Penetration: 16" of gel + 12" of water

    Thank you, Andrew, for another interesting test. I have now watched several videos of the 140 gr. XPB bullet. Whether it is loaded by Barnes, Federal, Buffalo Bore, etc., it seems to always expand and penetrate deeply. Since it apparently works from even 2 and 3 inch barreled revolvers, I think it might be an appealing choice for those who want a .357 Magnum for protection from larger animals, as well as, dangerous criminals.

    Agreed. It seems to be effective at an impressive velocity range.
