I've got an A4-based Dissipator using the 16" barrel and it appears the SS barrel in the photo is just a bit longer. I may be wrong. Regardless, the barrel I have now is an 18" SS in .223 Wylde with a 1-7" twist. I have a new DPMS A2 upper that I want to use for the build with a Colt "CSR" lower.
As for the stock I have the following options: A1-D stock (an old and worn original that I will be refinishing soon), a new A2 stock, and of course a Magpul STR stock. I plan on using all black furniture.
The A1 stocks fit me better as I have a smaller frame however my shooting is not adversely affected when firing A2 stocks, or other stocks. To be honest, I'm tempted to just finish out the A1-D stock and see how that works.
I do agree that a full stock looks better on weapons with 18"+ barrel and Dissipators.
Although the carbines in any configuration nowadays are most popular, my eyesight at my age greatly benefits from the full rifle-length sight picture and this is what I will shoot most with excepting the GAU-5/5A commemorative SBR I'm doing to commemorate my retirement. I don't personally expect much precise accuracy at more than 100 yards with my eyes firing through irons or an Armson OEG on the SBR.
The 16" Dissipator I have uses either a Magpul flip-up sight or a Aimpoint PRO. I have an A1-E stock on this and it's a very comfortable and sweet shooter.
From now on I will most likely use the AR15 and AR10 platforms limited to the full rifle-length sight distance, or at least a carbine 16" barrel. I seem to do pretty good still with a 20" barrel using iron sights.
