    Strykers for Peru

Wonder if these "reconditioned" vehicles are taken from US Army stocks?

WASHINGTON, Dec. 5, 2016 - The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Peru for Reconditioned Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicles and related support, equipment, and training. The estimated cost is $668 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on December 2, 2016.

Almost certainly. Uncle Sugar has been trying to remanufacture the original single hull Strykers into IED-resistant double-V hull models. IIRC much of the work was at Anniston and it involved total stripping of the original hull and basically junking that and reusing some parts. In other words, make-work recycling that likely cost the same or more than new manufacturing.

If DSCA can unload our war stock units that do not meet US Army specs any more, I say have at it. The Peruvians are still fighting the Sendero Luminisos and occasionally have to deploy against the Bolivians. They should have relatively current Strykers.
