Have you ever been asked to provide proof?

I'm not suggesting you take the risk and shoot an illegal, unapproved NFA item, but for the ones you have stamps for, have you ever been asked to show proof? I'm also wondering, who / which law enforcement officer has the right to request proof of an official NFA tax stamp?

    Personally, I've never been asked.

    Curious George wants know. Thanks.

My range asks if you have them.

In all the times I have been there only one range safety officer asked to see the stamps. I simply showed him my copies of the forms I had for the stuff I had with me even though it was not required by law.

    from the above link

"Yes. The approved application received from ATF serves as evidence of registration of the NFA firearm. This document must be made available upon request of any ATF officer. It is suggested that a photocopy of the approved application be carried by the possessor when the weapon is being transported.

Never. I would be absolutely astonished if I ever even met an ATF agent, let alone be questioned by one.

No shooting range that I've ever shot at has ever asked to see any paperwork on any SBR I shoot, nor has my SBR even been questioned at any carbine course I've ever taken (most of which have the majority of participants as law enforcement officers).

Never. I have copies on my phone, no paper copies. They aren't permission slips and I refuse to treat them as such.

I see at least one person with SBRs and/or suppressors at my range each time I go and I haven't seen anyone ask. I also saw someone shouldering a Sig brace right after the ATF said that doing so would upset King Obama and nobody said anything.

I think my range safety officers asking if you have them is kind of a cover their ass thing.

From talking to the guys who work there it sounded like they had some trouble in the past with people coming out with unregistered SBR's one of which I was present for.

Old dude comes out with a DPMS carbine says he bought it yesterday from the gun store so hes here to break it in.

Then when taking all his stuff out of the case he pulls out a 10" 300 blackout upper.
I ask him if he has a tax stamp for an SBR (knowing he doesn't).
He looks at me confused and says "a tax stamp?! I don't need one of those, that's an infringement on my 2A rights." He was asked to leave immediately by the RSO who overheard the whole conversation.

I get asked at the range I frequent. One I go to occasionally said they don't ask and don't want to see them. It's a nicer range and I think worth the extra 15 mins drive.

Ive been asked once. At a manned conservation range. Another shooter made a big fuss about my "illegal gun". I told him to go **** himself, get a conservation officer to come down and ill show him my copies of my stamps. He marched right up to the range office(staffed by a bunch of old retired guys), they called the conservation officer on duty, he drove the 9 miles down to the range, I showed him my paperwork, and they then escorted the other guy off the range and said never come back. Conservation officer apologized to me and said to have fun with all of my legal toys.

Went to an indoor range once and they not only wanted to see my copies of my stamps, but they wanted to copy them to keep in their file. I told them that would in no way shape or form be happening and we left and went to another range.

Both of those things happened in Missouri. So far, nobody in Texas cares.

Keeping in mind I don't have to show anyone but ATF, I carry a copy just to make life easier. Never been asked, but haven't shot on public range yet.

I agree with this. Also like someone said earlier, it's not a permission slip.
