BCM 11.5 w/A5H4 won't lock back or cycle unsupressed.

Anyone else with this behavior? Not a huge deal, it shoots smoothly and reliably with wolf steel case and wolf .223 suppressed with the can on. But it would be nice to have it cycle at least Wolf Gold (which is 5.56 pressure?) without a can.

Should I step back to the A5H3?

Is it possible there is just a break in time on the new buffer system I installed?

Before I had a carbine spring and the ST-2 buffer in the rifle. It had trouble occasionally stripping rounds into the chamber unsupressed, but no issues ever suppressed.

It only cycles suppressed with all the ammo you've tried?

If so, I'd drop down to -H3

I'd probably try some real ammo first.

I thought Wolf Gold was G2G? not trying to debate it, but I'd like to know as I was considering buying some.

My 11.5" BCM cycled just fine with an A5H4 and M193 & M855

Same here. That also includes my 12.5 and my SIONICS 11.5 RGP barrel.

Weapon cycling is kind of like one big math equation. With part of that being ammo power, gas port, gas system size, spring rates, buffer weight, etc....
Whenever you change one of those listed above, it effects the whole system, and the system can possibly stop working as desired. Anything to everything can not be done.
It may be a question of tweaking the set up. In this case, given the ammo choice, current results, etc.; I would guess the A5 buffer needs to be lighter. I think there are 4 or 5 different A5 models and you have one of the heaviest.

My 2 BCM 11.5's with A5H4 and Green SpringCo will cycle weak PMC Bronze and lock back consistently.

    Just my experience.

    What spring are you using?

I agree with the post above, I used to use a A5H4 and Green SpringCo spring on my 11.5 BCM ELW with no issues. I now run the gemtech SBCG and have since dropped down to the A5H3 just because I felt the gun was running a little slow but never had any issues with the A5H4. If you are running a stock spring you may want to look there first and go with a Green SpringCo.

Then come a ton of complications...

Is the gas-block loose or seated correctly?
    Is the gas-key sealed correctly?
Is the gas-key and gas-tube interface and seal correct?
Is the chamber clean and smooth?
    Is headspacing too tight?
Is the hammer causing excess drag on the BCG for some reason?
Is the buffer retaining pin somehow causing drag on the BCG?

However, after a quick look-over, I'd order an A5H1 or H0 and try that...
