Assembling gunshout wound IFAK -- any suggestions esp from EMT or combat medics?

I'm in a big city so level-1 trauma is a phone call away. Concern is immediate first aid at crime scene or shooting range.


So far I'm thinking:

Israeli bandage, 2 each

Celox applicators, 2 each

Halo chest seal, 1 each

Bandage shears, 1 each

Anything else I need? A roll of 4 inch gauze? Gauze pads? Do I need these if I have Israeli bandages?

What else?

Any EMTs or combat medics out there?

CAT tourniquet, 1 each

Nitrile gloves are a must. I'd also include some cloth tape.

tourniquet and chytosan gauze....first responder/EMT basic training would trump any kit though.

I feel like you're doing pretty well with what you got. I'll second wigbones in adding in nitrile gloves. You have the necessary stuff, especially when you consider help is likely less than 5 min. Also, really much more than what you have would be an ALS skill.

Nitrile gloves? Do you really want to take time to put on gloves with an arterial gunshot wound at hand?

Celox gauze: Is it a good idea to try to pack a wound with help just down the street?

Not every gunshot wound is going to be an arterial wound or even life threatening. Plus there's always the possibility you may have to treat someone you know nothing about. So yes, I wouldn't have a kit without nitrile gloves.
