The m4c Non-Movie Star Wars Thread

Being a thread for Star Wars TV shows, novels, video games, comics, and virtually all non-movie Star Wars media.

Just saw this trailer today for the next Star Wars: The Old Republic expansion:

BioWare's lightsaber fights are pretty much always awesome and this one does not fail to disappoint (even when only one particular combatant is using an ignited lightsaber).

HK-47 was the best party member evar.

I thought about getting it on tablet.
My team was more like the crew of Serenity or Outlaw Star than Star Wars. I never paid much attention tonlight or dark side. It was all guns and gold.

Oh, God. I forgot that Outlaw Star even existed until I just read that, just now.

Apparently the tablet version sucks. My brother got it on his cell phone and it was very awkward from what he said. Might be better on a tablet, though.

I have it on my MacBook, but it's not the same with a trackpad and keyboard as with an Xbox controller. I might try plugging my PC's keyboard and mouse into the laptop and try it again... but we'll see.

So did I! I thought KOTOR2 had the better story. Buggy as hell, though.

Honestly after "The Force Awakens" I'm done with Star Wars. They did everything they could to capture the spirit of the original and it still greatly disappointed me.

I've got the original trilogy and the remastered / updated original trilogy on DVD. The George Lucas updates are garbage CGI fests on a nicer looking print that is now unwatchable. Of the original trilogy I only watch the original 1977 film. Would have been nice if he just cleaned up the original special effects without adding crap, but that version doesn't exist so I just watch the original 1977 film even though some of the effects remind me of the tv show Battlestar Galatica at times.

I can't even watch "The Empire Strikes Back" because that requires watching "Return of the Jedi" to complete the story line and "Return of the Jedi" has muppets and teddy bears and is the beginning of the really stupid crap.

I didnt like KOTOR2. No Bastila.

Actually TFA made Star Wars great again. Rogue One looks promising, they are righting a lot of wrongs, and it's getting back to wars in space.

No intergalactic CSPAN, no gungans, no anything. Just Han Bowcastering MoFos.

The real remastered Star Wars Trilogy DOES exist. In fact, Disney keeps saying they are gonna release it uncut and in Blu Ray. Then there are the Despecialized versions.

As for not liking ROTJ, are you insane?

I saw itvas a kid in theatres. It had A-Wings, itvhad Vietnam war on Endor, it had, Slave Leia when Carrie Fisher was still worth a damn. It had Vader chucking the Emperor off a balcony.

If you didnt like Wicket, then I fear you are a Communist, sir.

It had many great things, but they were all canceled out by muppets and teddy bears.

Seriously Han Solo gets captured by walking teddy bears with crappy spears? Are you effing kidding me? And they capture Luke who is master of the force and he can't womp ass on a gaggle of walking stuffed toys but making C3PO fly around does the trick? Chewbacca seriously couldn't have bitch snapped one of those spears and played cricket with every single one of their heads?!?

That is when Star Wars died. Lucas killed something great and I won't celebrate the beginning of the end. Return of the Jedi could have EASILY been the best of the trilogy, but Lucas decided to make another Star Wars Christmas Special.

If not for American Graffiti, I'd consider the first film to be a complete fluke.

    .......

Yeah well I liked it, had the lunchbox, got the Han Solo gun and green lightsaber for Christmas and to this day I cite it as my favorite of the series.

I thought the green light saber raised the stakes. None of this blue and red rave crap looks like two cop car lightbars screwing in the dark.

Green. It meant people were gonna get stabbed up. It meant Damn the Man.

As for Han and Chewie gettibg captured up by Ewoks...did you not see Aliens? Hudson talked his shit about all the cool guns they had and Xenomorphs tore their natural Marine Corps Chesty Puller asses up.

I dunno how Paul Reiser lives with himself.

Plus ROTJ had ATACS FG before it was invented

If anything A New Hope sucked as bad as Phantom Menace There, I said it and I meant it.

Maybe you should stick to Star Trek. Who's your favorite captain? The guyvspreading space herp and overacting or the guy quoting Shakespeare and Melville to aliens who don't know or care about Earth literature while sipping Earl Grey and being bald.

You know what....best show ever was Firefly. A Confederate soldier in space with his battle buddy and a ragtag crew getting into trouble and ducking the Alliance

No BS, no poetry, just people getting their asses kicked and Christina Hendricks before the ravages of time

    There, I said it

You are obviously allowed to like it, there were much worse films out there. I just couldn't accept the flaws and they negated everything cool in what could have been the best of the three. All of them had flaws it one wanted to nit pick, but generally the first two were not so completely burdened by them.

Worst thing about Empire Strikes Back, "I am your father...", what kind of "Days of our Lives" soap opera bullshit is that? So in the entire galaxy just so happens that the three prominent characters are father, son and daughter.

Even worse, the baddest character in the history of sci fi, Darth James Effin Earl Jones Vader, lost his balls at the end. It's like a Clint Eastwood western where the bad guy throws down his gun and starts crying because damn if Eastwood isn't right after all.

As for Han and Chewie getting caught by Teddy Bears, that in no way even comes close to the most terrifying giant insect looking thing in Aliens. One Xenomorph would wipe out an entire planet of Ewoks.

Honestly, Star Wars was important for two reasons only.

    1. A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away... This was revolutionary, it wasn't the future, it wasn't our presumed destination. It was unrelated to "us" and had come an gone presumably before "we" even existed.

    2. It was a "used" advanced space faring civilization. Not everything was shiny chrome and glass. It was advanced technology capable of warp speed but still looked like an old Buick if they made space cruisers. It was brilliant, things broke down, everything wasn't perfect.

Other than that the only contribution is "light sabers", which made even ray guns seem gay in comparison, especially with that vibration sound when they moved and the roar of Tie fighters. That scream might be the single greatest sound effect in film history, I still love the sound of a Tie fighter.

The rest was hijacked Wagnerian opera, lifted story lines from Samurai films and recycled effects from THX 1138 that few people even remembered.

As for Star Trek, there is only one, I suppose for everyone that is the one they grew up with. I grew up with Kirk and Spock and could never relate to any of the other crews.

My other favorite would be the original Battlestar Galactica, I had a thing for Maren Jensen. Then there was Erin Grey and Pamela Hensley in the 1979 Buck Rogers, my god it was almost like Cinemax after dark.
