So.......I have this itch for a 6x45. Here's what I'm thinking so far:
McGowen SS, 18", lightweight contour, recessed crown (no FH)
No finish
.750 gas block
Mid length gas
Nothing written in stone on McGowen, but have a 308 that shoots well (bolt) and they seem to be one of the few choices out there for an AR.
Looking to shoot 58-95 gr. bullets, so am thinking 1/9 (not sold on the twist yet)
Is it realistic to try and 'twist' this for the 88 Berger? Too much bullet? Will the 95 VLD's shoot OK at mag length? Would probably shoot more 68’s than anything else for groundhogs and the occasional coyote, but might like a 95 for deer, 400 yard max. I'm in VA, so deer max out about 150 or so.
Any input, data, experience appreciated. Thanks.
