“Those who do not view armed self defense as a basic human right, ignore the mass graves of those who died on their knees at the hands of tyrants.”
Here's a good article, The Real Soylent Sickness, via the New Yorker on Soylent and the ilk. The article makes some solid points, such as:
"The tech world approaches food from the perspective of engineering: a defined problem to be solved, with the right equations, formulas, compounds, and brainpower. Soylent was developed by its creator, Rob Rhinehart, to compress all the nutrition the human body needs to live into one single, easily digestible formula, like the twenty-first-century version of manna. But that is fundamentally the opposite of the way we increasingly want to eat in America and in much of the developed world."
The article misses several key points however, such as, the fact the people developing them don't have any background for it, and don't know jack shit about human physiology, nutrition, etc, and have no business assuming their tech background some how qualifies them, hence you end up with a product of cheap garbage per products like Soylent et al.
Two, the article, and the inventors in Silicon Valley of this and similar products, act as if the category of what's referred to as Meal Replacement Powders (MRPs) didn't already exist, and has existed for well over a decade. MRPs have been a staple product in the bodybuilding/sports nutrition market since the 90s, some of which are very well formulated and contain quality ingredients, a few of which I listed here prior.
For a variety of reasons, people should not replace quality real food with MRPs, but a quality MRP is perfectly acceptable over say junk food or when time is very tight, or after a workout when some quick quality liquid nutrition is wanted. I prefer homemade MRPs if given the choice, and also supplied a recipe for such in the existing Soylent related threads.

So Will, with your vast knowledge and unbiased professional opinion, how do you hypothesize I had completely optimal and healthy bloodwork after consuming nothing but Soylent for an entire month? You would think that since it's such absolute garbage, my levels would have been a little wacky at the very least, no? https://www.reddit.com/r/soylent/com...y_100_soylent/
I don't work for them, but I can appreciate a product which frees up my day, allows me to eat affordably when not at home, and is a better alternative to most college "deal" food out there. But it makes a lot of people uncomfortable, even though it isn't even half of my meals currently. I think eating meat should have a much more serious stigma than a vegan meal replacement.

More joy for this POS product. The page hit's the nail on the proverbial head:
"Soylent is a case study in engineers thinking they're smarter than everyone else, but aren't."

P.S. Still not dead!
Not sure how this comment is even relevant... you are what 22? It is REALLLY hard to f up your digestive system at that age.
With all the recalls and now established Bio engineering scientist starting to say this is a bad idea has me convinced to stay away from it.
I might change my view point if they actually submit it for FDA approval, until then others should tread carefully.
