Apologies if I'm speaking out of turn but that is Idaho. I look forward to replies by Lost River. His photos remind me of home.

Lost River Range in central Idaho.
THE CHAIR IS AGAINST THE WALL.
We shot out to a mile again yesterday and the struggle was real! Temp was in the low 50's at 920 feet asl. DA was 1040. Lots of wind. I had no success through 15 rounds and called it quits.
The 28 Nosler was the star of the day. It is shooting the 195 Berger EOL at 3200 fps. 13 mils to a mile. It repeatedly hit our 36 inch plate when the 338 lapua in our group could not. Continue to be impressed by this cartridge.

I use a 338 Edge for shooting a mile and beyond. It can be loaded on a Rock Chucker. Basicalky its a 300 RUM necked up to 338. No fireforming.
While I have not been past a 1050yds with 338 Lapua, lack of places to shoot. Another cartridge that deserves a look at is the 300 Norma Mag, ballistics are better then some of the other cartridges mentioned. It doesn't give up much ballistically to the 338 Lapua. The military is going in towards the 300 Norma in place of 338 Lapua. My barrel and action will be going out for Cerakoat and I have been playing with the idea of having another barrel spun up in 300 Norma.
Damn, I didn't know Idaho was so pretty.

Have you thought about something like 28 Nosler? That sounds awesome.

I recently got my 6.5 Creedmoor out to 1580 yards. As I said earlier, target is a 66% IPSC. So I think that's about 12" wide or so. I managed to get 3 hits on target out of like... 15 or something like that haha. And managed to recover a few rounds that landed in the ground near the target and they were still fairly intact. They were about 2-3 inches into the soft soil. So they really don't have a lot of energy left at that distance. Wind was basically zero. DA was around 3000 I think. If I remember correctly, I needed something around 17 mil and change for elevation.
Anyway, my point is still that the 6.5 probably isn't the best choice for extended long-range shooting.
