How hard was it for anybody to get rounds outside of standard buckshot? They were impossible to get in our part of Afghanistan. All we got was the green hull five round boxes.

I carried a Mossberg briefly, but I do not remember the model (500 I believe). It did not have a pistol grip. It was for breaching.

Wow the PEQ2 with 550 cord brings back memories. Gut the cord, gift wrap, and melt the ends with a lighter. That shotgun almost looks like a 590 with the front sling swivel. Thanks for the picture.

Flatlander - Yes, that's what all the Army 18.5" M590s look like that I've seen over the years. I actually gave up my own personal stock to my Cav Troop because one of the 590s was missing the full stock (it only had a pistol grip). It was supposed to be a loan until a replacement stock came in, but I left before that happened, and I have a Speedfeed stock on mine anyway.

It is a 590? Good to know. It has been a while. They were fun as hell to shoot.

Our unit took 20 M500s to AFG in 2007-2008. There were another 10 on the books that we assumed. Also 2 870s with pistol grip/breaching muzzle devices.

The pistol grips are AAL for the shotguns. I don't have the NSN here, but they can be ordered for units using them as breaching shotguns. We provided MOD 2 and MOD 3 kits to allow units to switch between pistol grip and full stock in the field without having to go back to the arms room or 20 level maintenance. Those parts now have NSN's.

We also provided USASOC and the Army SEP program with conversion kits to put on 14" barrels and 16" breaching barrels on any Mossberg.

Back in 5th SFGA in the 80-90s we had Winchester 1200s in the Arms Room. When I got to 1/10 in Germany in 00' we received new stocked M500s. There was also just a few cut down 870 for breaching and thats what I used as a breacher going thru SFARTEAC in 97'. During Iraq 03-06' in Iraq 5th SFGA had few breacher 870s and the M500s.

5th SFGA 03-04' First support troop, second 18 series

Later 04' ran into my oldest son with 3/8 Cav, 1st Cav Div in Baghdad. He was issued a M500 18.5" with PG and Surefire light.

He then turned the M500 in for a Rem 870 MCS

Later in Afghanistan I got my hands on couple SOCOM 870 MCS systems. Came in handy when we Salerno was attacked by 50 Tailban at night in 10'.

    Standard issue Winchester 00 buck

At the JSOTF-A arms room in Astan Dec 14'

then the last two years in Iraq and Kuwait as a SOF Weapons Instructor and Depot Level repair where I fixed AFSOC, Army SF, MARSOC and SEAL guns do remember some M500s, Rem 870 MCS. The USAF Security Forces in Kuwait had the M500s. Just don't remember seeing any Ben M4s.
