I have shot out to 1000 with factory 168gr FGMM out of a 16" 1-8 twist .308 and had consistent hit after hit on a 18 x 24" Plate. I didn't check for group size. Drop was 12.5 Mil in an 18x MK-6. It was out of a factory rifle with a Bartlein blank turned barrel.

1:8ish seems to help significantly with trans-sonic stability.

For 1,000 yards with a Sierra 175 you generally want 2550 fps muzzle velocity (or better) with a 1-10 twist. A 16-inch tube (even with a tight twist) will be around 2475, and the Lapua 17 and 175s will be around 2485.
I'll third this. Pappabear's 16" LMT 10 twist gas gun will shoot 168s to 1000 yards, but my 20" bolt gun with 12 twist fans them out over about a 12 yard radius. 12 twist/168s/transonic is a bad combo for me.

My 16" tOBR shot the 168 FGMM (chrono'd at 2494) out to 1000 some what reliably (on paper on an f class sized target at least) but god help me if I read the wind wrong at that distance. I wanted to shoot the 175s but my gun doesn't like them so for now I'm stuck.

I'm trying to work up a load for the 155 palmas to see if they'll be better but it's a work in progress.

I'm crossing my fingers the 185 bergers will work in my gun, it's finicky to say the least.

Ditto. Berger Juggernaut 185 from a 26" barrel, easily stable to 1000m. As well with a 16" barrel, 800-1000 yards with a 10 twist.

    No idea!

Spotter got me on, I held with an H-59 and started hammering it!

Like this man says, you really want to push the 175's, just pray your gun likes them.

I have a LOT of Hornady 178 HPBT. Hope my new Hawk Hill .308 1 in 10 twist will like them.

155gr Palma bullets work perfectly at 1,000 yards, when fired in a 30", 1:13" Palma barrel. Probably not going to work real well out of a 16", fast twist barrel. Check the scores from the Palma matches held at Camp Perry, and then check out what rifles they were using.
