    cycling problem with 308 build

Built a 308 with a Sharps Bros receiver set with Ballistic Advantage mid-length barrel. 8.5oz buffer and carbine buffer spring from heavybuffers.com.

Black hills ammo. Using a Pmag and a metal mag from LaRue, the gun fires and ejects the casing, but does not strip next round off the magazine.

I switched to a 308 buffer from LBE. Its much lighter, but no weight info listed on package or website. With the lighter buffer, it fires, then strips one round off the mag and fires, ejects, but won't strip the next round. Did this twice in a row

    Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm running heavybuffer.com XH carbine buffer and spring with a adjustable gas block. With the adjustable gas block I was having the same issues as you, installed the XH Buffer and spring combo for suppressed use and tuned gas block to least amount of gas to cycle reliably. No issues to date with/with out suppressor (roughly 1900rds).

ETA: 18" medium contour Faxon barrel with mid gas.

I am running a standard gas block. Are you saying the rifle is overpassed and I need to reduce the gas?

Yes, if your bolt is out running your mag reguardless of heavier buffer it's over gassed.

I was guess that the big was not traveling far enough back to catch the round. How do I figure out if I am over gassed or under gassed?

Load one round in a magazine and see if it locks back.

    To all concerned.

The custom build area is a place to show off/discuss and ask questions and get feedback about your completed custom build (this means a completed AR that is functional and already completed). If you are going to post pictures of your build, please post a complete picture not just your parts, partial lowers, etc....

Also, buying an upper separate and then a lower and throwing them together does not constitute a custom build. It would be nice if you took time to explain how you came to your decision and explain your set up. Thanks.

If you do not follow the guidelines and your post disappears it's probably because it was moved to the trash or deleted.
