For a factory M&P, .003 is very good. Heck, .006 is good, and I've seen bigger.

.003 is the highest I would accept (especially on an M&P). On say a Glock, no big deal. The reason is that the M&P starts to shoot a pattern and not a group at 25yds and the Glock will just shoot a little high.
It is true that non-2.0 M&P's could have a slide to frame fit of .006-.008.
For me, I want something around .002 or less. With that said, the MAJORITY of shooters will not be able to take advantage of barrel/hood fit this tight.
