    A lightweight rifle for a friend's daughter

This will be the third rifle I've built for this particular gentleman, although on this project he really left a lot of it for me to decide. His goals were: a) under $1000, b) good quality, c) relatively lightweight, d) good looking from a woman's perspective. He provided a lower, upper, barrel, and BCG, the rest was left up to me.

To start I asked his daughter (23) what color she would like most and she said pink or red. Pink was going to be tough so she decided on red by useing FDE parts dyed with cherry red rit dye. Overally the package came in just over $1k after optic which was left off for the photos. In the end this gun will be used more for recreational purposes than defense or hunting, but other than the color I am confident it would handle either very well.

    Lower parts list:
    Aero lower
    BCM RE
    H2 buffer
    CMMG LPK
    Magoul CTR
    Magpul K2 grip
    Magpul MOE triger guard

    Upper parts list:
    Aero upper
Ballistic Advantage 16" pencil mid length 556 barrel
VLTOR 12" freedom rail (good rail for those who want keymod but are budget conscious)
    A2 FH
    AmDef milspec BCG
    BCM mod4 charging handle
    Magpul MBUS Gen II sights
    BCM keymod covers
Sig Romeo 5 red dot sight

All red parts started out as FDE.

That FDE took the dye very nicely. I'm sure your friend's daughter will enjoy her new rifle.

Looks good. Really impressed with how the furniture took the color. How does it shoot? How is the Sig red dot? Haven't really heard much feedback on them.

Great job on the build. That red came out great & looks much better than pink IMO. I'm sure she will love it!

The red came out looking a lot better than I thought it would. I was imagining it would have been the bright hideous cherry red. Good work on the dye.

    Called the Vltor Freedom Rail
    https://www.vltor.com/shop/ar/handgu...-freedom-rail/

DSG Arms just had a sick sale on the 15" but the sold out ASAP. I would expect a high quality handguard though.
