    Rheinmetall / Steyr RS556

Germany's Rheinmetall and Austria's Steyr Mannlicher have partnered to manufacture and market a new and modular military assault rifle.

It weighs just over nine pounds and has an adjustable-length lightweight stock.

According to Rheinmetall and Steyr Mannlicher, the weapon's barrel can be quickly and easily exchanged for longer and shorter barrels for mission customization.

The weapon is seen as a possible candidate to replace the German Army's standard G36 assault rifle beginning in 2019.

I swear, that stock looks like an updated Rogers Super Stock and the gas block/regulator and flash suppressor looks exactly like a Ruger SR-556 with a bayo lug.

Actually the barrel is an AUG barrel. But yeah, the Rogers Space Stock has to go. Put a SOPMOD on that and then you have something.

This. The SOPMOD feels rather AUGish anyways.

Doubt it. Piston guns are heavy. That is what I still love about SP1s, full size 20" barrel rifle...6 lbs.

I suspect the T1 is for 30 meters and inside, offset isn't going to be a huge factor. Really no different than pre flat top ARs running carry handle mounted scopes with a Doktor optic on top of it.

Could just as easily ditch the AUG scope and run the T1 alone on the top rail if inclined. I'd probably run flips and a co witness Eotech.

Nine pounds is a bit much but I'd bet that could be cut. I must have one! Steyr bring this to the US. My AUG is in the process of going on a diet right now. We are cutting/recontouring the barrel, installing a lighter rail/optics and adding ambi QD sling mounts to the stocks.
